Tourism's Role in Supporting Maui's Recovery

We would like your thoughts and input on how tourism can best support Maui’s recovery and be respectful to Lahaina and Upcountry families.

The Maui wildfires have had a devastating effect on residents and businesses. A Hawaiʻi State Department of Health assessment found that the greatest priority of wildfire survivor households was Financial Recovery (29%). 1 Persistently high unemployment and businesses cutting hours or closing add to the challenges.

Across the state, efforts are underway to support Maui’s recovery. The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority is developing a plan to support tourism’s role in the recovery based on input from the Maui community, economic data, and stakeholders throughout the state.
